 FAQ's

What is the season for harvesting nuts?

In California, almonds are harvested in August and September, and walnuts come off the trees later, around October.

Why are your nuts and dried fruits better than others I might be buying?

Two main reasons: one, we work with fantastic growers, and two, we deliver their products straight to temperature-controlled storage.

What are the nutritional benefits of your products?

All Yolo Farmstand foods can be part of a vegetarian, vegan or gluten free diet.

About 23 almonds provide 6 grams of protein and 4 grams of fiber, plus vitamin E, magnesium, riboflavin, calcium and potassium.

About 12-14 walnut halves provide 4 grams of protein, 2 grams of fiber and magnesium. An excellent source of alpha-linolenic acid; and plant-based omega-3 fatty acid.

About 1 ounce of raisins has 1 ½  grams of protein. Raisins are a good source of fiber, iron, and antioxidants.

About a cup of dried peaches offers a good source of carbohydrates, and about 5 grams of protein, along with dietary fiber, vitamin C and vitamin A.

Are Yolo Farmstand raw almonds pasteurized?

Our almonds are steam pasteurized which is the best process for retaining vital nutrients. A short burst of steam treats the surface only. This process meets USDA National Organic Program standards, and does not diminish the nutritional value of almonds.

Yolo Farmstand raisins say “uncoated.” I thought all raisins were uncoated?

No, most raisins are coated with oil to avoid clumping.  We searched long and hard to find a grower who didn’t coat the raisins with safflower oil so that we could deliver a true, pure raisin flavor.

What’s the best way to store Yolo Farmstand products?

These perishable foods are best stored in a cool dark place in an airtight container or refrigerated. Nuts and dried fruits will retain freshness for up to six months.

Why organic?

Organic foods support individual health and the health of the planet.  Organic soil has far more natural nutrients and no chemicals. Less density and more air in the organic soil means water is used efficiently.  Anyone handling the harvest is safe, the grower and the harvester.
